The story of Jonah-
Have you ever tried to run away from something?
Watch this if you missed our lesson Sunday.
God told Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell the people to stop doing wrong.
Jonah did not want to go. He didn't really care for the people who lived there. Hmm....think about people we may not really wanna hang out with? Does that mean we aren't kind or loving?
Instead of going to Ninevah, Jonah went the other way! Opposite of what God told him to do.
He got on a boat heading to Tarshish.
God sent a big storm and the others on the boat asked Jonah what was going on. Jonah knew it was because he didn't listen and God was not happy. Jonah told the sailors to throw him into the sea.
God didn't forget Jonah and sent a big fish to keep him safe. The big fish swallowed Jonah up and he was inside of the fish for 3 days and nights.
Jonah prayed to God and told him he would do what he asked him to do. God gave Jonah a second chance. After 3 days the fish spit Jonah out and on to Ninevah he traveled.
When he got to Ninevah he told the people what God had told him and sure enough the people turned back to God. God had compassion and did not destroy the city.
And what was Jonah's reaction?? He was a little grumpy and felt that God wasn't handling things correctly! LOL. He thought that the people deserved to be punished differently.
God had to help Jonah understand that God is loving and forgiving and not just for us. But, for anyone who wants Him in their life.
